Bit disappointed...

I'm so disappointed.
Here's why:
I had bought Harry Eastwood's other book ' Red Velvet and Chocolate Heartache' about a yr ago, and after i had baked 1 recipe from it (banana and zucchini bread), i was very eager to try the rest and initially had marked it a 5. Well, i won't go into everything i made but i had written a review for that also. I found they did not turn out right and they did not taste right. Then this book came out.
I LOVE French food and i was so pleased to see that she had posted calorie counts under each of the recipes. The recipes in themselves seemed great but again, another pet peeve is that there are not enough pictures. I know this is a personal preference, and i think i would not mind as much if what i had made first turned out to be a good recipe, but alas, i've yet again had a bad experience with a Harry Eastwood book.
I made the Raspberry Macarons. I read through the recipe twice, just to get a feel for it, because i know that macarons are supposed to be really difficult to make, but this recipe looked fairly simple so i decided to give it a go. I do not think the recipe went into enough instruction on how to make them properly, when it gives the instruction for "food colouring" and "paste is best", there are no quantities and in the actual instructions she doesn't specify how much she used either she just says "i like to use a lot of colour". Well, that's great, but how much?? I had to look it up online. I also had to look up online about where to actually find food colouring paste as i could not find it in any specialty shop OR supermarket. I wish she would have also told me to SIEVE the icing sugar and almond meal and when i put it into a piping bag, it was the wrong consistency, it was too runny. They did not turn out great at all and there was a lot of liquid left over and wasted.
Maybe i will change this review at some point after possibly making something else (madeleines maybe?). But after bad experiences with the other book and now this...I don't know...

I love this cookbook

I love this cookbook! I have read it from cover to cover multiple times. I love the fact that many recipes are less than ten ingredients and you can get many of them out of your garden! I did an impromptu four course meal for five completely from this book and pulled it off in about an hour. It was amazing! I move and travel extensively so I have managed to give away or store this book twice, so I am about to buy my third copy.

Harry Eastwood is a very creative chef and cookbook writer. She tries things and tests things that others don't even consider. I have read cookbooks all my life, and I have learned more from her than anyone else I have read in a long time. While a lot of her dishes are lower calorie or gluten free, they are all excellent in their own right so you never feel like you are missing out.
