I enjoyed this book

I enjoyed this book. I sometimes like to read biographies that are written for younger readers because I learn about the person without having to wade through all of the less important info. Lazy I know but I learn about a lot of people who I never knew existed. Dr. Picotte was one of these people. It is amazing what all she did to become the first Native American doctor, especially during a time when Native Americans were not well thought of and had to fight twice as hard for everything. This book is very interesting and I recommend it for anyone who is interested in learning about a person who was known to only to a small few. Dr. Picotte fought hard for what she wanted and she earned every bit of it.

I bought this book in a little bookstore in Monterrey Mexico Downtown for a ridiculous price (400 pesos= 40 dollars), the information in it is invaluable for the understanding of the structural behavior under dynamics loads (Equipment, wind, earthquake, impact etc.) and more important is that you can traduce this behavior to the physical world in a comprehensive and easy way, with the help of this book I was able to design from a panoramic advertising structures to steel and concrete Vessels in a high seismic area, from a bulk materials conveyors structures to equipments foundations. If you have the money to buy it, buy it, and the book pays for itself.

Rise Up and Salute the Sun

After reading the first story "The Little Girl and the Sphinx" I felt like I had just had a personal conversation with GOD. The message was so simple a 7 yr old girl with a pure heart understood how to be a good person and live your life on the path of truth. I had to read it again almost immediately as I didn't want to miss any part of the message. This story drew me inside the conversation and it became my dialogue, and when a book or story can have that affect on the reader then that book is a quality read. Found the story and poetry to be a manual for living a conscious based life.

For those that are searching for truth, Suzy Kassem's "Rise Up and Salute The Sun" is the perfect guide in pointing readers towards the right direction to this life long endeavor. For those that are not yet seeking, "Rise Up and Salute The Sun" will do as the title suggests - awaken. Not only will it awaken but it will also plant seeds. I have been following the writings of Suzy Kassem online for a couple of years now after stumbling upon her "Style Is King" blog and will say that every piece she has written is timeless, relevant and effective and the same rings true for the words contained in the poems, short stories and parables in the book. What is most admirable about Suzy and her writings is the strong conviction in her words as well as her selflessness to share such deep knowledge and wisdom freely. Most importantly as a voice of our generation, her messages flow straight from the heart. In this upside down world we live in, her words lead, uplift and light the way to a better existence, on a personal, local and international scale.

Really made me think

While at school, I heard this writer speak, and was blown away. I borrowed a copy of this book from my professor, and it was both one of the most enlightening and disturbing things I have read. Disturbing in that it made me look at some of my beliefs in a completely different way, and question my way of thinking. This collection of short stories, poems, and thoughts from the author was a profound influence in my live, and I can not keep from telling others about it.

Yes, women loves shopping! I consider this book required reading for anyone (or any retailer) who is interested in understanding (American) women's shopping behavior.
I would like to recommend this book for marketing/retailing instructors who teach (women) consumer behavior at college (undergrad and grad levels). A great book by two women authors who understand that women loves shopping through interviews with American shoppers!

Interesting and Insightful

I am a bit biased because Stella and Pat are colleagues, but I recommend you get this book! It is based on solid research so insights presented are not anecdotal or gut feelings; they are data driven. The interviews provided rich and powerful data and Stella and Pat did a masterful job of drawing appropriate conclusions and suggesting actionable strategies. And, the book is fun to read!

All We've Come to Expect from MacArthur

It seems to me that John MacArthur writes books in two broad categories. The first is books that often address cultural issues or specific issues within the church. This includes books like Hard to Believe or Ashamed of the Gospel. The other category is books that are drawn from sermons series he preaches to his congregation at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. The Fulfilled Family, the lastest in a long line of MacArthur's books, falls squarely in the second category. This book began as a series of sermons expositing Ephesians 5. It is no more and no less than what we have come to expect of John MacArthur - well-written, deep, challenging, and above all else, firmly biblical.

The book is divided into five chapters of roughly equal length. There is one chapter for each of the family, the wife, the husband, the child and the parents. Following the theme of the book, each chapter exposits a portion of the fifth chapter of Ephesians and other parallel texts.

The theme of the book is the importance of mutual submission. This is not the mutual submission taught by those who would have us believe in the equality of roles between men and women, but the mutual submission exemplified by Christ Himself. Husband, wife and children are all called to be submissive to one another, being clothed in humility. This is the very core of Christlike character. "As Christians, this is the mentality that should govern all our relationships: 'In lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests,but also for the interest of others' (Phil.2:3-4)" (page 10).

This theme pervades each chapter as MacArthur calls for wives to submit to their husbands, for husbands to honor their wives, for children to respect their parents and for parents to love their children. Ultimately a family can only be a fulfilled family by following God's divine plan for family life.

A short book, at only 126 pages, The Fulfilled Family provides a challenge for any believer. After all, every one of us is either a husband, a wife or a child. It is the type of book that makes an ideal gift. While there are more thorough books on the family (including some written by John MacArthur) this one does what it sets out to do - provide biblical wisdom to address the constant challenges facing the divine plan for the family. Needless to say, I recommend this book.

Excellent introduction to the Bible's direction on family life

This is an excellent overview of what the Bible has to say about the roles of husband, wife, children and parents. MacArthur has written more comprehesnive books on marriage and parenting which I have not read. If you are looking for a quick refresher or to begin to study this vital area of Christian life, you could hardly do better than this.

Content is typical MacArthur: excellent! I was disappointed in the size of the book...fairly small, however, it still is an excellent read for every Christian home. Will make an excellent gift to every family. I will definitely buy more for friends and young families.

Janice Thompson, Ph.D., FACSM

University of Birmingham

Janice Thompson is a professor in the School of Sports and Exercise Sciences at The University of Birmingham, U.K. Her work in the United Kingdom focuses on developing nutrition and physical activity interventions to reduce the risk for chronic diseases and type 2 diabetes in high-risk populations. She also has a US affiliation as a nutrition and exercise research consultant with the Office of Native American Diabetes Programs at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. Janice earned a Ph.D. at Arizona State University in exercise science with an emphasis in exercise physiology and nutrition.

Janice is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), a member of the American Society for Nutrition (ASN), the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASES) and the Nutrition Society. Janice won an undergraduate teaching award while a faculty member at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.

Janice also publishes two other introductory nutrition books with Pearson. They are the non-majors nutrition book Nutrition: An Applied Approach and the majors book The Science of Nutrition. In addition, Janice co-authored Sport Nutrition for Health and Performance with Melinda Manore (published by Human Kinetics).

Oregon State University

Melinda Manore earned a doctorate in human nutrition with a minor in exercise physiology at Oregon State University, and a master’s degree in health education from the University of Oregon. She is currently a Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Exercise Sciences at Oregon State University, where she teaches and conducts research in the area of nutrition and exercise. Before coming to Oregon State, she taught at Arizona State University for 17 years. Melinda’s areas of specialization include nutritional requirements and issues for active women, nutrition assessment, and the role that nutrition and exercise play in health, energy balance, obesity, and disordered eating.

A registered dietitian, Melinda is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). She is Past Chair of the ADA Research Committee and the Research DPG (Dietetic Practice Group). Melinda is a member of the American Society of Nutritional Sciences (ASNS), the American Society for Clinical Nutrition (ASCN), the North American Association for the Study of Obesity (NAASO), the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Military Nutrition Research, and a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

Melinda wrote a nutrition column for and is an associate editor of ACSM’s Health and Fitness Journal, and she has won numerous awards for excellence in research and teaching. While at Arizona State University, she was nominated for the Distinguished Mentor of Women Award (1996), and the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Alumni Association Outstanding Teaching Award (1998, 2000). In 2001, she received the SCAN Excellence in Practice Award.

Melinda co-authors Pearson’s non-majors nutrition book Nutrition: An Applied Approach, the majors book The Science of Nutrition, and Human Kinetic’s Sport Nutrition for Health and Performance with Janice Thompson.

This book is everything I thought it would be. Mark making using stitch and creating texture. This is the second book of Helen Parrot that I've purchased. She is a great teacher.
