Great price. Same as the newest edition except the new one has cover pictures. Same information as EKG interpretation has not changed!! Recommend this purchase to save money on the high cost of the newest version (6th edition).

Simple EKG book

This is a great book for students trying to learn the ins and outs of reading EKGs. The method Dubin uses is pretty standard to approaching EKG interpretation. This book will not get into complex issues but provides an excellent foundation for reading EKGs. It is a little dated but it is so cheap, it's worth your time.

Great book. Use of big picture/diagrams on tops of pages really breaks EKG down and gave me a lot more confidence in my reading where there was none.

A worth while read, but not epic.

I remember trying to read this as a kid and I had a tough time getting through the rather dry prose. Now that i'm older, but not necessarily wiser, I decided to take another crack at this book. I made it through and overall am impressed. It still remains, in my opinion, a rather stilted read, but a couple of thoughts.
1. It served to remind me just how much of a powder keg Europe was at the time. I was impressed at how far the fictional advancing Soviet forces were able to progress until they were halted.
2. Even though more than 30 years have passed, many of the same weapons systems (obviously modernized now) i.e. Backfire bombers, M1/Leopard tanks, F-15/16, etc are still in either frontline or reserve use today.
3. I believe right on the money as to how it would be a quick war, as there is no way to produce such complex systems in a short time as we were able to do in WWII
4. Sobering that 'tactical' nukes were really considered a realistic option.
5. Poor Birmingham/Minsk.
6. If the Soviets did attack during the 'dead period' of the late '70's, this would be a much different world as the author points out. Very different, Comrade.

A prediction so close in so many ways

I lived through this era as a U.S. Navy officer, and back in the day NO ONE expected the USSR to collapse when it did, in the way it did. Sir John Hackett accurately captured the built in contradictions of the Soviet Socialist system, and missed only the mode of its collapse, predicting a desperate military lunge instead of the amazingly peaceful self-termination that actually happened.

Sir John's purpose was, of course, to warn about the need for vigilance and preparation, and to give the layperson some idea of the ways the terribly lethal weaponry that had developed by that time might interact on the battlefield.

A reader's taste is subjective, of course, but for me it is still quite entertaining to revisit.

Good for its time

I first bought and read this book in hardback as a first edition while in the US Army. It wasn't reviewed as a "literary project" so much as a dire warning to NATO countries in general and the US in particular if steps were not taken to face the growing Soviet threat at a key juncture in the Cold War. In that respect, the book succeeded, as President Reagan's modernization plan went into effect. Some may scoff that all Reagan did was turn the US from a creditor nation into a debtor nation in the early 1980's. However, as someone who served on the Inter-German Boundary tripwire while this equipment modernization process was taking place, every military professional who had read the book by that point was keeping track of how fast our readiness programs were going as we advanced towards the "August, 1985" deadline Sir John Hackett had given us to prepare by. For perspective, picture yourself and your unit outnumbered 5 to 1, on alert and deploying forward as martial law is declared in Poland in 1981...

Understanding Pontiac Engine Air Flow

Great book for the Pontiac enthusiast and experience engine builder. This is not the "101 Class" of Pontiac engine assembly. This book is for those who already have engine assembly knowledge or experience and want to root out the most performance using matching parts and the shared modification tips that Jim Hand has acquired through his years of hands on experience. The book provides a concise and short history of the Pontiac V-8 engine performance years. It offers insight and tips on building your short Block, assuming you already know how to assemble an engine. Camshaft selection, degreeing, and valvetrain gear is thoroughly explored and made simple to understand. Step by step modifications are shown for the Q-jet carburetor, and the AFB, Thermoquad, and multiple carb set ups. Intake manifolds and modifications are shown with test results revealed. Here is where this publication really shines - a step by step walk through in head modification; grinding, porting, polishing, valve application, and flow numbers. Good photos accompany the text and guide those who want to really make their cast iron factory heads wake up. You could skip all this and just simply buy the aftermarket Edelbrock aluminum heads, but you most likely bought this book like me because you like to do all your own assembly and want to accept the challenge of making you iron block and heads produce the most available power without going way over budget in doing so. If nothing else, it gives you a template that your buddy or local machine shop can use in modifying your iron heads for maximum performance. Next is the exhaust section that shows you what works in scavenging those spent gases out of the engine, from the high-performance Ram Air cast iron manifolds to headers, pipes, mufflers, and again, the results. Finally, many of the nations Pontiac engine builders have submitted their engine package builds and this is another great plus in using these as a guideline in building your engine. If you don't care to build your own engine, one of these builders can, but at least using this book you can ensure you understand what is being done to your engine and where you want to invest your money in gaining horsepower. Owning many stock Pontiacs over the last 30 years, and several were worn out GTO's, I was never disappointed with the factory's engine performance even when they were tired. Adding a few speed goodies and tweaking a few adjustments always made them a little faster. This book will maximize the performance potential of your new engine build and have you grinning from ear to ear when your attention to the performance details that this book offers rolls out of your driveway and lights up the rear tires to everyone else's annoyance!

Excellent Book!!! Don't Pay a Crazy Price For It!

Very Great Book. But just be patient and keep checking Amazon as much as you possibly can. I only paid $18 for a copy. Couldn't imagine paying someone's CRAZY $200+ price tag for it. People are finding and adding it all the time at "REAL WORLD" prices but they sell almost immediately.

GREAT BOOK!!!

I've only skimmed through most of the book for a quick look at what's inside and I have already gotten several ideas on what I'm planning on doing. I can hardly wait to really dig into the details of some of the more involved procedures. This book is very well written, laid out and organized. Data is presented in a format that's easy to understand and references to additional data is plentiful.

GREAT BOOK - with LOTS of tips and tricks to help your Pontiac run better!
