Disappointing

I have read all of the books in the Michael Bennett series, and this was by far my least favorite. The story didn't hold my interest. It seemed to be superficial and hastily written. It was hard to keep track of all the CIA/Secret Service characters. I also missed the usual inclusion of Bennett family members ( only Brian was included in the storyline) and there was no further development of the Michael/Mary Catherine romance.

Worst of the Michael Bennett books

It saddens me to only give this book 1 star because I love James Patterson and I especially love the Michael Bennett books, but I couldn't even get past the first quarter of this book. It was too technical without really getting into the meat of the story. It would serve better as a guide to tactical weapons than a work of fiction. I'm not giving up on James Patterson, but I really hope the next one has more story to the story.

Read whole book to see what happens but not worth it.

Should have put it down long ago.

I originally purchased this book for a Poli Sci class and lost it sometime after the class. A few years later I desperately wanted to re-read certain portions ( turned out to be all of it ) and actually bought it again. While it's obviously a summarization of many political ideologies, the breadth of information is excellent.

I first read the book in POLSC 201: Intro to Political Theory. I found the book to be well written and easy to understand. I kept the book after the course was over and have since referred back to this book for many other classes. I recommend this book to all Liberal Arts and Social Science majors.

About the Author
William Haltom is professor in the Department of Politics and Government at the University of Puget Sound and the author of Reporting on the Courts. Michael McCann is the Gordon Hirabayashi Professor for the Advancement of Citizenship at the University of Washington, Seattle. He is the author of several books, most recently the award-winning Rights at Work.

Objection Sustained!

After having read Stephanie Mencimer's "Blocking the Courthouse Door" I became more interested in the arguments against "tort reform." However, this book did little to enhance that interest.

In defense of the authors, Haltom and McCann, they have presented a thorough discussion of the topic as it relates to politics, media and the litigation crisis, just as the subtitle says. There are chapters for pro-business tort reformers, plaintiffs and sociological scholars opposed to it, newspaper reporting and information selection, the story of "the McDonalds Hot Coffee Lady," tobacco litigation, and a final chapter, which I confess, I had no idea what they were talking about, mainly because I had lost interest. Their analyses are so in depth that they would probably even have John Stossel scratching his head.

My hypnotic trance was due to the academic presentation of information. In fact it was so dry, it almost gave me the Heaves. I object to this for the person who wants to learn AND be entertained. The objection is overruled for the reader who wishes to pursue serious academic study of the tort misinformation from different directions. For the latter, it is at least four stars. Either one will be better informed, and may God have mercy on your soul!

For me, it was a solid three, only because I wanted to find the information interesting.

Read for school

It is a good topic if you do not know anything about tort. The book gives good examples and is very well researched. Though given the choice I would prefer to watch the documentary "Hot Coffee" it is not as in-depth but it dose cover the basic ideas. Over all it is a good read if you are interested in tort.

Corporate Mythology

This book should be a must read for judges and reporters. It shows how propaganda, rather than fact, controls our lives, beliefs and behavior. It exposes the myths of litigation promoted by the ignorant and those in the sociopathic pursuit of profit.
It is a hard read for the unitiated and the writers assume that the reader has a basic understanding of law and sociology. It is essential reading for those who wish to reflect on the ills of post-modern societal and governmental organization.

About the Author
Wim Van Hecke, PhD, is an international expert in MRI analysis and advanced neuroimaging techniques and applications. An academic engineer by training with two Masters degrees in applied biomedical engineering and neuroimaging, and a PhD in diffusion MRI�analysis, Dr. Van Hecke presently divides his time between pursuing research in advanced DTI analysis at Antwerp University Hospital and managing the business operations of icoMetrix, a rapidly expanding medical image analysis service that he co-founded to make state-of-the-art image analysis accessible to all.

Louise Emsell, PhD, is a translational neuroimaging expert and educator. Presently based at the University Psychiatry Centre (UPC) and Translational MRI departments at the KU Leuven University Hospital in Belgium, Dr. Emsell has two Masters degrees in Science (Medical Physics/Medicinal Chemistry) and Education, and a PhD in Psychiatry. Her award-winning postdoctoral research combines many advanced neuroimaging techniques, including state-of-the-art diffusion MRI, to study the development and evolution of psychopathology.

Stefan Sunaert, MD, PhD, is a Consultant Neuroradiologist, Professor of Neuroradiology and internationally-renowned expert in all aspects of clinical and academic MR neuroimaging. Presently head of the Translational MRI Department at KU Leuven, and based in the Radiology Department of the KU Leuven University Hospital in Belgium, Professor Sunaert has published widely in the field of Neuroradiology and has received numerous awards for his academic research. Additionally, he is a highly-respected clinician and educator who has organised numerous advanced neuroimaging courses and workshops at conferences across the world.
